Many moon drawing tutorials depict the moon in a stylized way. However, this article will show you how to draw a moon rather simply.
So, first off, you have to draw a large circle on the paper, and you will complete the process by darkening the outer layer and creating some shapes in between the circle.
Since it is a pretty simple depiction, these are the only tools you’ll need:
- Paper
- Pencil
- Grey (light and dark) coloring pencils or crayons
- Eraser
- A large bowl
Now, we have materials on our hands. Let’s get into the details.
How to Draw a Moon – 5 Simple Steps!
Step 1: Draw a Large Circle
First of all, draw a circle with a pencil. You can make it as big as you want the moon to be. We advise you to make it by putting a bowl on paper. However, you can also make it through a compass.
Step 2: Draw Medium-Large Sized Shapes
Inside this circle, draw 4-5 irregular shapes to represent bumps on the moon. Next, fill these shapes with grey colors.
It is better to take a dark shade of grey. You can use pencil colors, markers, or crayons according to your preference.
Step 3: Draw Moon Craters - How to draw a moon
We know the moon has those bowl-shaped craters. For that, draw some 0-shaped small circles inside the circle. Draw them with a pencil and don’t fill them in.
Step 4: Color The Moon
Use a light-shaded grey color pencil to color the circle. Please ensure that you are not filling the color in the shapes and craters.
Step 5: Darken the Outer layer
Well, we are almost there, and this step is optional.
For a more neat look, you can darken the outer layer of the circle with a black crayon or marker. And, there you go. Your pencil sketch of the moon is ready!
