Sky-Watcher 8″ Collapsible Truss DOB?

Question by nymets6159: Sky-Watcher 8″ Collapsible Truss DOB?
I have been asking a lot of questions lately, and Im so thankful for all the answers, and I came to a conclusions and need some reviews/opinions on it. It is a Sky-Watcher 8″ Collapsible Truss DOB. http://www.skywatchertelescope.net/swtinc/product.php?id=138&class1=1&class2=106. So check that out.

I am deciding between a 8″ or a 10″. The main reason ive decided on this and not something like an Orion Skyquest XT8/10, is because of the Truss and a lower price. I’m most likely going to travel a bit to get to a dark area. And it seems as though Truss’s make portability more manageable. But if someone does have the SkyWatcher im deciding on and could tell me there experiences with portability or with the telescope itself, and the views of nebulae /galaxies/ other DSO’s. thatd be greatly appreciated.

So please help! :)

I do not own any of the telescopes you mentioned, but I am a member of a high school astronomy club and we use celestron C8’s (8″) and a homemade, 12 inch dobsonian. If you are deciding between 8 and 10, the 10 will definetely give you a better view of DSO’s. The views of galaxies from our 12″ are slightly better than those of the 8″ ones. I don’t know if you have your heart set on a dob, but our 8″ schmidt cassesgrain reflectors are much more portable and still offer good images. Also, our dob has no motor because it is homemade. I would definetely buy a telescope with a tracking motor for DSO’s. DSO’s are generally very faint and hard to track manually
If you want a dob, the Sky Watcher will probably suit your needs, but I would investigate other, more portable options if that is important for you.
